FC St. Pauli
This is an interview and article on the St.Pauli Football Club, one of Europe’s most notorious, exciting, genuine and yet most romanticized football club. Aside from the fact that I live in the neighbourhood of St. Pauli, one which was described recently as the last “honest, and genuine urban neighbourhood in Europe”, the story of the club is directly related to the social and political development of the neighbourhood and vice versa.
What makes St.Pauli, both the club and the neighbourhood, particularly interesting to a men’s lifestyle magazine is the fact, that the football club, aside from selling it’s official team merchandise, also sells a clothing and accessory line, that, is probably the most genuine and hence successful streetwear brands in Europe.
Before I lay grounds to that claim though, it is important to put this relatively small neighbourhood and the club into context.
