Mumford & Sons debutalbum “Sigh no more” is out on Island Records and is the perfect soundtrack for the coming days of autumn melancholy. Yepp, I still owe you Monday’s song. It’s from the new self-titled album of Interpol and the single is called “Barricade”. The album has been recorded with bassist Carlos Dengler who, unfortunately, left the band after the recording. He will not be touring with the band. Unlike many other bass-players Carlos has been a great contributor to the output of the band. His input will be greatly missed.

Music | Eternia & Moss “At Last”

I’ve slipped a bit on posting a review of Eternia & Moss’ At Last. The record, which dropped in June through Fat Beats Records, pairs two Canadians – Eternia on the mic and Moss on the boards. Probably obvious, given the MC/Producer title combo and the Fat Beats Imprint, but the collection boasts undeniable classic boom bap combined with a serious set of properly chosen guest verses.

Eternia rocks with a confident cadence, her verses a veritable love letter to proper unrelenting hip-hop. Never apologizing for gender or ethnicity, she keeps pace and owns the record. No easy feat when the album’s first buzz track, “It’s Funny”, has her trading bars with the superbly witty Joell Ortiz. The track is followed by the lead single, “BBQ” with Rah Digga & Rage. It’s almost a “Ladies First” for real live female spittas, a “hip-hop purists” track. Consider these women the opposite of sexed up lead commercial MCs – Eternia a 180 turn from the talented but surely overly-groomed Nikki Minaj.

These two tracks are indicative of the power of Eternia’s voice. She’s every bit the equal of her guests, who seem chosen simply to celebrate hip-hop and for contrast. She could, and can, carry a full album solo – make no mistake about it. Having guests simply hammers that point.

Moss – whose stature has skyrocketed with work for Ortiz, Obie Trice, Ghostface, and Kool G Rap – keeps a consistent pace throughout At Last. His sonic stamp a perfect backdrop for Eternia. Both are cut from a classic cloth. As stated, their creation hits on traditional boom bap. The bass-lines stay funky – especially true on “A Day in the Life” – and head nodding proves the desired outcome throughout (no need at all for dance floor fillers here).

As most of us who claim “hip-hop is dead” are the types that miss the hay day of proper underground head nodding – of the 1990s variety – that Eternia and Moss have gone so unrecognized by the majority of bloggers (including me, feeling guilty for the lateness of this review) is sinful. It’s the rap we know and love. It’s also the rap that needs our continued and full support.

Reigning Champ & Patta Sweat Suit

I suggest you start popping in on the Reigning Champ site a little more often as their blog has recently been receiving plenty of updates with everything from inspiration to sneak peeks of upcoming product. One of the peeks they have given lately is this collaboration fleece sweat suit with Amsterdam’s Patta. Using the heavyweight fleece RC has become well known for, “the top is a full zip hoody with a snap button storm flap, with a split zip/zip out hood that reveals a stadium collar when the top is off. The sweat pant has full front pockets and a military inspired reinforced bottom.” The military inspired branding is enlarged, yet still keeping Patta’s clean vibe. Bang on streetwear. I’m having a hard time with this post at the moment as there is coffee seeping through my keyboard due to the initial reaction I had when I spotted these boots. It is tough to find a purveyor of footwear that can match the knowledge and style of New York’s Leffot. When they hitch a ride with Americas long standing footwear producer Alden, it will likely cause a similar reaction to anyone with even the slightest of interest in footwear.
