  2. Seen this a couple of months back when it screened in Scotland. Really good. Obviousely Black Metal’s become a bit of a hot topic in recent years, but the listening to black metal/knowing about black metal ratio is way out of proportion. No surprise though when there’s doc’s like this getting made, which give more insight into the whole thing instead of just skimming over the usual shit we all know about anyway.

  3. @Mark: Yes, it’s really impressive how deep black-metal has been integrated into pop-culture. However, I see different layers of what black-metal is. And there’s only a bit of the aesthetics and sound that really made it into the mainstream, the essence however is still in the underground. And there it should (and will) remain.

And I am totally with you on the point of missing black-metal-knowledge in the hipster-black-metal circles.

  4. Yeah, i also think it’s still very much an underground thing, especially with the insane amount of sub-underground releases that have came out in recent years. In fact some of the new bands seem even more zealous in approach (if not in practice). I guess something like black metal will never completely crossover anyway, for obvious reasons.
