The Sound Strike * Zach De La Rocha
I am still some what in shock in regards to the law SB 1070 that the state of Arizona passed a little while ago. That’s putting it lightly. In my opinion is grossly racist and opens the door to something we, as Germans, experienced in my grandparents generation. Each to their own opinion, but as far as I am concerned, the government of Arizona and those that support need to have their collective KKK suit violently removed from their ass.
Despite the increasing extreme ideologies being turned into reality in the US since 2001, a voice and mind that I respect greatly has been notably silent. Zach de la Rocha, frontman for Rage Against The Machine & The Wild International and known for his insightful and inspiring political reasoning has finally stood up and focused his energy on what I think is necessary.
The Sound Strike is an effort to organize artists in a civil non-violent action against that state. What it amounts to is a boycott of Arizona by musicians, who vow not to perform in those states. A full list of the artists that have joined this can be foundĀ here, but the names that will matter to readers of this site include Nine Inch Nails, Rise Against and Joe Satriani as well as Rage Against The Machine and related projects like Street Sweeper Social Club.
