The Oiler Wash by Edwin Europe

edwinpocket

I am fortunate that the showroom I work in also sells Edwin Europe. Whilst going through their Autumn / Winter collection I came across a pair of jeans that really impressed me. They looked and felt great, the wash was absolutely amazing, and to my surprise they were selvedge. I quickly, and wrongly, jumped to the conclusion that they must have been part of the imported Japanese Vintage collection that Edwin Europe also sells. I asked my partner who sells Edwin and he corrected me in saying that, no, these were part of the new European Line at Edwin and even better, were totally affordable. I was stunned. I had honestly not ever seen such a perfectly crafted denim in my life. 5 minutes later I was writing an email to Rey Gautier over at Edwin, who is in charge and responsible for all their beautiful work lately to ask him about the wash and the jeans out of which a week long email banter occurred, part of which is the following interview.

TRC: Hi Rey, good to  connect with you again. As you might have noticed I have been hunting and writing about different washes in regards to denims these past weeks. I just saw a new wash in your European Line called the “Blue Oiler Wash”. Quite frankly, this is probably the best wash I have ever seen any jeans in. Can you tell me a little about the process involved and the story behind it all?

Rey Gautier: Thank you for your kind compliments regarding the washes on the denim. In many ways, this is just the start as we’ve all been working hard on providing honest and real reference points forming the basis of a solid wash collection, we can add to and carry over from season to season.

This was missing from the EU collection as increasingly consumers require consitency in style and washes from Edwin.

For SS11 we have extended the flavour of washes at this level, and are working on offering a more modestly priced in a ‘similar vein’ for the mainstream market. When I say mainstream, I mean the market we need to move towards slowly, steadily and with little compromise on quality or feeling as it remains EDWIN on the label… Offering the oportunity to a broader section of the consumer market whilst remaining true to the integrity of the Edwin brand ethos.
