FC St. Pauli

So how and when did the skull and crossbones come into the mix?
Well, the skull and cross bone flag underwent a very similar transformation, in regards to the time line and social changes, as I just explained. Kind of like what happened to that famous Che Guevara image. From a serious political message, the anarchists, squatters, from the rebellious nature of the scene, the similarities of the famous pirates of the neighbourhood from the 12-15th century it moved to what it is today: a legally protected merchandising logo that still recognizes and symbolizes that past, without the political orientation of said past. Towards the end of the 90s the club discovered the flag for themselves and has been using it unofficially as its logo.
