Design and the Art of Reduction at the Vitra Design Museum
If you have ever have the chance to pop down to Weil Am Rhein, which coincidentally houses the Carhartt/Edwin Europe HQ as well as their magnificent outlets, you must by all means take some time to visit the Vitra offices and museums. It’s quite unbelievable that such an important and directional company in regards to design has their HQ in such a quaint sleepy border town to Switzerland, but there you go.
The Vitra Design Museum traces these conditions and influences in its new exhibition and presents the high art of reduction as the quintessence of design. Divided into twelve sections grouped under the headings Manufacture, Function, Aesthetics and Ethics, the exhibition puts forth the motifs, motivations and strategies pursued by design in its quest for efficiency.
